Personal Information Collected & Cookies

In common with many other websites, we sometimes use cookies. This involves placing small amounts of information on your PC or other device that allows you to link to information we hold that relates to you.

The cookies we generate only contain a random sequence of numbers and letters that allow us to recognise you as you move from page to page. No personal information of any kind is stored.

These cookies only last for as long as you maintain your web browsing session. When you close your browser the information disappears and no information is stored on your PC from one session to the next.

In addition, Google Analytics sets cookies to estimate the number of visitors to the website and volumes of usage. This helps to ensure that we provide a fast service that is available when you want it. See Google’s Privacy Policy.

We also collect the request made by your browser to the server hosting the website which includes the IP address, the date and time of connection and the page you ask for. We use this information to ensure the security of our websites and we delete it after a maximum of 3 months. We may use and disclose it as necessary in the event of a security concern or incident.

The use of your personal information in the above ways is necessary for the legitimate interests of the University of Cambridge in operating and improving its websites, analysing their use, and ensuring their security. Our websites collect very little personal information and we use it in ways that are compatible with your individual rights and freedoms. Where you enter your personal information into an online form on any of our websites for any specified purpose, you will be told about the use we will make of that information (e.g. to send you newsletters or to enable your attendance at an event).
